Project 2 - Sports/Fitness Interest Club Web Prototype

Extreme sports club web prototype
In this project, I was given the scenario of a (fictional) regional recreational club requesting website promotional assistance to gain members and sponsors. This fictional club wants to host events, offer lessons, and sell memberships.
I had to create a brand and a website while accomplishing the objectives:
Using a "fig jam" within Figma as an open discussion as a brainstorming method to identify potential ideas for clubs.
Thinking outside the box (or the "Squarespace".) Use a website design prototyping tool instead.
Using Adobe Illustrator to create a "word mark."
Using Figma prototyping tools.
Looking at website templates and examples and using a template as a sizing guide.
Thinking"offline." Create "online."
I used the skill and knowledge learned in several of my foundational courses at MTSU. I used a lot of the knowledge I learned in 2d design. I made sure to keep a good overall balance of elements within my web pages. I also kept in mind hierarchy and working with headers/sub headers so that all the elements of my page would be clear and easy to navigate. I kept in mind the proportion of my pictures so that they would work together on each page, and I made sure to keep the alignment of my text and pictures consistent throughout the pages, so that the users could easily navigate and be lead down the page. I carefully chose my colors to go along with the aquatic feeling, lots of dark blues, greens, and white. I felt that using white against blue or green gave the pages a nice contrast that allowed them to be easily read and have the elements pop out. I also used repetition of shapes and colors to give a consistent and pleasing feeling to my pictures and text. I ended up writing most of my own content for the pages, and I think that the things I learned in english helped me with my creative writing. I made sure all the content fit the theme of the club and tried to keep the content informative and exciting. The skills I learned in photography helped me when choosing my photos. Things like visual weight, color, contrast, line, and exposure all played into my choices of photos. I chose high contrast, dark photos for my 'black' page, that way they could flow into the rest of the page seamlessly and give the page a smooth, flowing feel. For the bluer pages I chose photos that had blues and greens to give them an aquatic feeling.

I didn't initially have a connection or knowledge of cave diving, but after some research I found it to be quite interesting. I chose it because I thought it looked like something that would be incredibly difficult and scary to attempt, but would ultimately be fascinating and rewarding. I still don't know that it's something I would actually do but it was fun to learn about. I conducted most of my research by searching for scuba club and cave diving websites. I also used several other types of websites for inspiration, such as aquariums. Many of the aquarium websites were more professionally done than the lesser known diving websites, and they had a similar 'aquatic' theme that I wanted to capture with my own website.
Process:

I began by doing out figjam mood board where we selected several photos and a color scheme that we thought would work with our websites. Then I sketched out layout ideas on grid paper so that I could get a general idea of what I wanted my pages to look like. Next I visited some similarly themed websites and started to look for photos that I could use on my site. Then I began building the main page and trying to get a the layout and colors where I wanted, followed by adding subsequent pages. After I had the main page I built the other pages and continued to edit things and compare to other webpages I liked to assure that everything was looking the way I wanted.
